Jaffna Major Champion 2020 Sivanathan Sivathanujan

He was born on April 23rd,2000 and came to know about the game of chess from his sister when he was in grade 8. He is from Kokuvil Hindu College following the Maths stream. His school coach was Mrs.Viththiyaranei Ainkaran, but now he is more dependent on self-learning.
Sivathanujan continuously participates in the local and India rated events and also he is progressing towards his goals.
Here are some of his achievements.
- National Major –Jaffna Division 2017- Champion
- National Youth chess championship 2017 - 6th Place
- 11th Mumbai Mayor International chess championship June 2018- Category C, 1st Runner-up.
- Kathmandu International Chess Championship 2018- Category 1400-1600 1st Runner-up.
- 17th Delhi International Open Chess Championship 2019- Category B (below 1900) Best Foreign player
- 12th Mumbai Mayor’s cup 2019- Category C 1st Runner-up
- Sri Lanka Junior National Chess Championship 2019- 1st Runner-up
- 18th Delhi Open International Chess Championship 2020- Category B Best Foreign Player
He likes more former World Champion Mikhail Tal. He believes in Tal’s words and it is a good message for our young generation-
“To play for a draw, at any rate with white is to some degree a crime against chess.”
As Siva says his future is chess!.
